Details

Let's hike Smarts Mountain on Sunday, February 2nd! This will be a moderate difficulty 7 mile, 2200 ft round trip. We might also make hot chocolate at the top!

Route info can be found here.

Weather

10-Day Forecast Mountain Forecast

So far the forecast claims it will be 18 F (-7 C) ambient and 0 F (-18 C) with windchill on the mountain on Sunday.

Requirements

You should feel comfortable hiking equivalent 3-season mileage and elevation gain, but with extra equipment and layers in your pack.

We will be using microspikes and possibly snowshoes, but you won't need prior experience with them.

Logistics

Please update your car status if you can drive others! There will be a mandatory trip meeting at 9:15pm Thursday.

Please be ready to depart very early on Sunday morning. This will allow us to complete the hike and return home early enough to avoid the brunt of the snow that is expected to start in the afternoon. Depending on the forecast, we may decide to leave as early as 5am!
