Do you love hiking up mountains, but feel like walking down is not as fun? Let's just butt-sled instead!
We'll start our hike from the Crawford Notch AMC Highland Center, then hike up Mt Tom, Mt Field, and start butt sliding down, grabbing Mt Avalon on the way.
Our route is about 6.5 miles, with 2800 ft of elevation gain. https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/new-hampshire/mount-tom-avalon-and-field-loop
We'll bring MITOC's butt-sleds as well as ice axes to control our sledding. We'll require microspikes and possibly snowshoes, depending on the forecast. Butt-sledding involves a lot of snow contact, so you'll want waterproof jacket, pants, and mittens.
Note: It will be very cold on Saturday (single digits F at the top with windchill approaching -15 F).
There will be a mandatory pre-trip meeting outside the elevators on the 4th floor of the student center at 6 pm on Thursday after which you'll be able to rent gear.
