Join us for a short hike into a scenic spot in the Fells!
Mandatory pre-trip meeting after Thursday’s lecture, 9pm outside of the MITOC office
We’ll meet at 9am at a Fells trailhead (tbd depending on where everyone is coming from).
Expect to be out for 2-3 hours (a half day trip).
Once we’ve hiked in a little bit, we’ll chose a spot to talk about and practice using some emergency equipment, including:
- Stoves, shelters, and basic first aid
- We’ll bring hot chocolate: BYO thermos to drink out of and snacks to share
- If we can find enough snow we can try mini snow shelter construction
- We’ll talk through other safety gear – ex. for crevasse rescue, avalanche beacon/shovel/probe to give a taste of what people could look into for classes, depending on what types of trips you might be considering
- Answer any questions people have
- Practice layering while staying still in the cold
