Prerequisites
3-season hiking experience, physical fitness for distance and elevation gain

Join us on a moderate winter hike up and down Cannon on Sunday via the Lonesome Lake Trail! You should have 3-season hiking experience to join this trip. Previous winter hiking experience is helpful but not required. There will be some fresh snow in the days before, so we are planning to bring microspikes and snowshoes.

Route: We’ll do an out-and-back route of ~6mi with 2400ft of elevation gain via Lonesome Lake to Cannon (similar to this route on AllTrails).

Weather: You can check forecasts here. Sunday is currently looking pretty cold (~12F on the summit with 20 mph winds), with a possibility of fresh snow overnight on Saturday, but the weather can always change! We’ll provide more information on what you’ll need to stay warm in the pre-trip email and meeting.

Logistics: MANDATORY pre-trip meeting will be at MIT at 9pm on Thursday January 09. We’ll depart Cambridge early Sunday morning (around 6am). If you can drive your own car or are willing to drive, please edit the lottery preferences on your profile to show this.

Costs: Please budget for: $5 trip fee, $30-50 carpooling costs, any personal gear rentals (capped at $15), and any food you buy along the way. We intend to use the MIT car cost calculator and share costs equally among participants.

(PS Thank you Hannah S. for the trip description from week 1)
