We will be headed to Braintree Mountain Forest in Vermont about 2.7 hours from Boston for some backcountry skiing! We plan to explore the Skidoo Backcountry Area (and maybe discover if the rumors of a warming hut are true?) Skidoo Mountain offers some lower-angle skiing through glades with nice views of Braintree Mountain.
More info on the area here: https://catamounttrail.org/bc-zones/bc-zones/braintree-mountain-forest-rasta
This will likely be a very early morning to go backcountry skiing in the trees in Vermont. To have fun and be safe on this trip, you should be confident skiing in glades, and on black runs at a resort.
Preference is for skiers who have some experience with backcountry gear, but it is not a requirement. Please reach out to the leaders if you need help deciding if this trip is right for you! You should be comfortable climbing about 3000' in a day and a confident skier in varied conditions. There will likely be thin snow coverage, unexpected snow conditions, and there will be obstacles (rocks, trees, uneven terrain). Backcountry skiing is a combination of skills (winter hiking & alpine skiing) and we want to make sure everyone is prepared enough to have fun and be safe on this trip!
