  • CHANGED TO GUNSTOCK AND BELKNAP MTNS. (to avoid driving back in a snowstorm)

DETAILS We will be traversing Imp Face and the Carters, a 10.8 mile route with significant elevation gain (3600 ft). We will be beginning from the Imp North Trailhead, hitting Middle Carter, Mt. Lethe, and South Carter (in that order) on the Carter-Moriah/Appalachian Trail, before descending to the 19-Mile Brook Trailhead. Mt. Lethe requires a 200-ft. bushwhack off the main trail.

We'll have beautiful views of the Presidential range, as well as bagging two 4000+ footers (Middle and South Carter). We'll stop for a quick breakfast near the trailhead, and start early so that we can hike at a moderate pace.

REQUIREMENTS Previous experience winter hiking is highly recommended. Physical condition for this distance and elevation gain.

COSTS Please budget for the following expenses: $5 trip fee, $30-50 carpooling costs, possible gear rentals and eventual food you buy along the way.

DRIVERS If you can drive your own car or are willing to drive a rental car, edit the lottery preferences on your MITOC profile to show this. Expected car cost per person is $25-40; if you are an MIT undergrad, this cost can be reimbursed. (MIT provides discounted car rental to affiliates, and we'll evenly split rental/gas costs).

PRE-TRIP MEETING We will have a mandatory pre-trip meeting at 6pm on Friday on Zoom. You will need to rent appropriate gear at MITOC office hours beforehand. We will provide more details on the pre-trip email.

FINAL NOTE We reserve the right to select participants based on previous experience. Being selected in the lottery does not guarantee a place on this trip. Thank you for your understanding and please email us with any questions.
