Prerequisites
see trip description for more details: must have prior bc ski experience, must be comfortable on resort black runs, comfortable with climbing about 3000' in a day

We will be headed to Brandon Gap VT (3.5 hr car ride) to do some backcountry skiing! Brandon Gap consists of four backcountry zones maintained regularly -- see here for more info: https://catamounttrail.org/bc-zones/bc-zones/brandon-gap-rasta/

This will likely be a very early wakeup to go backcountry skiing in the trees in VT! We will split into two teams of 6 with a 1:2 ratio of leaders to participants, but this trip is being coordinated as one big trip for carpooling.

This trip is aimed at people interested in making the transition to independent BC skiing. It is not for new skiers or people who have never used backcountry gear. A combination is ok - if you have some idea of how to use bc gear and you are a confident black run skier this trip is for you! You do not have to own your backcountry ski gear though - you can rent gear from MITOC.

Expect to gain about 3000' of elevation on this trip, and ski down this elevation on varying snow conditions. Elevation and difficulty can vary by teams, but expect to do at least 1500' to 2000' of elevation. If you want to discuss this in detail before you sign up please reach out at lecture on Tues or via email.

Small group size will allow us to focus on learning ski skills (transitions, kickturns, boot problems), and choosing terrain. Expect this trip to be more work up front than average.
