No need to overachieve? We are hiking the teeniest of the 4000ft-ers in the white mountains! If you want to stick your nose just above 4000ft, this hike is for you. Officially listed as a 4000er it’s actually only 3997ft but maybe we can just jump the remaining 3ft all at the same time? Or build a snowhuman to make Tecumseh a bit higher?

We'll start from the Waterville Valley Ski Area and go straight up the Mt. Tecumseh Trail to the top and back (link to route). The route is 4.9 miles (return), with 2300ft elevation gain (caltopo map) and therefore considered easy in terms of horizontal distance but moderate in terms of vertical ascent! Depending on timing we can add on 1 mile along the ridge to another viewpoint.

Requirements

No previous winter hiking experience is required! You must have (or rent) appropriate gear as detailed in the mandatory lectures. You should have previous hiking experience and leaders will go over specific gear in the pre-trip meeting on Thursday.

Costs

Please budget for the following expenses: $5 trip fee, $30-50 carpooling costs, possible gear rentals (capped at $20 including trip fee) and eventual food you buy along the way. MIT undergrads are eligible for financial aid.

Logistics

There will be a mandatory pre-trip meeting at the MITOC Office at 9pm on Thursday after the safety lecture. We'll send details by email after the lottery runs.

We will need a couple drivers for this trip! Please update your car status if you can drive others. If not, please select "not driving" or "will drive self". You must be prepared to rent a car if you have selected "willing to rent." (MIT provides discounted car rental to affiliates, and we'll evenly split rental/gas costs).
