Welch-Dickey Loop

This 4.5 miles, ~1700ft elevation gain loop is an easy-moderate introductory winter hike open to everyone! This trail has one of the best views to elevation ratios in the White Mountains. We'll practice layering skills, staying nourished during the hike, and crampon skills/different types of traction. And, you get two peaks for a single hike!

If you'd like, bring your favorite hot drink (cocoa, apple cider, tea, etc.) in a thermos and cookie/biscuit to enjoy while we admire the views.

The full trail description can be found here: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/new-hampshire/welch-and-dickey-loop-trail--4

Prerequisites

Have you done a hike that's ≥ 4 mi and ≥ 800 ft of gain in the last year? If so, you're good to go! If not, that's fine too, but please email the leaders and briefly describe your hiking experience (if any) and workout routine (if any). This trip is open to all, but we do want to have a general sense of everyone's fitness level to make sure it's a good experience for everybody.

Logistics

There will be a mandatory pre-trip meeting at 6:30pm on Thursday to review gear and logistics. We'll send details by email after the lottery runs.

We will need a couple drivers for this trip! Please update your car status if you can drive (put "willing to rent" if you can rent — MIT provides discounted car rental, and we'll evenly split rental/gas costs).

The weather might be cold this weekend. We will monitor it using this forecast for the nearby Mount Tecumseh.
