Mount Liberty, the 18th tallest peak in the White Mountains, is one of six mountains along Franconia Ridge. Its rocky open summit, at 4,459 ft, affords terrific panoramic views of the surrounding Pemigewasset Wilderness. We will ascend Mt. Liberty via the Liberty Spring and Franconia Ridge trails.
What?
We'll hike Mt. Liberty! And maybe Mt. Flume if time allows!
Where
It's about 2 hours north up 93 in Franconia notch (link to trailhead location).
When
Saturday Nov. 9! And we'll probably leave MIT around 5:30am so we can get the whole hike in within daylight.
Weather
Weather near the notch currently looks good in the lead up to the weekend.
Forecast for Mt Liberty also looks pretty good. It'll be chilly, but the few trail reports suggest no icy snow treachery right now.
Route
This will probably be the route. It's about 7 miles round trip, and about 3000 feet of elevation gain. The good news is that the slope, once it hits, is pretty consistent. The "bad" news: 2200 feet of gain in 1.6 miles is kind of a lot. We'll take a pace that works for the group, but be mindful that this is solid exercise. If the group is particularly strong, we can consider adding two miles to hike to Flume.
Cost
Expect $20-40 costs for driving reimbursements depending on how full the trip is.
PRE-TRIP meeting
Mandatory pre-trip meeting Thursday night at 9pm. Email to follow when the lottery runs. People on the waitlist will be updated in the afternoon on Thursday as the participant list updates.
