Join a hike to Mt. Parker, one of the less crowded New Hampshire 52-With-A-View peaks, known for its view of Mt. Washington and the southern Presidentials! We will continue to Mt Resolution and either make it a in and out trip, or go down via Mt Crawford if we’ll get a second car.
We will be following this route: Map 1. It’s about 10.4 mi long with 3,570 ft. elevation. If we get a car for the car swap, we would end up with 9.2 mi and 3,370 ft total. Map 2. If trail conditions prove more challenging than anticipated, we may decide to turn back sooner.
This should be a great chance to get out of town before winter starts. Foliage will be most likely over, but you can still expect some colorful trees. We're expecting the trail to be full of leaves, which will make it slippery. You should feel safe hiking down on wet/slippery ground and hiking poles will be helpful.
The weather will be presumably dry, sunny and cold. The summit is expected to reach a high near 38 F/ 3 C. Layering will be important, and everyone should have non cotton layers including a puffy and a wind shell. We may need to turn around if we encounter winter conditions requiring traction, and will cancel the trip if that seems likely.
We will leave Cambridge at around 5:30 am and probably stop for breakfast on the way. There will be a mandatory, hybrid pre-trip meeting on Thursday, 6pm in the community area on the 5th floor at MIT, that’s one floor above the MITOC office. Office hours are until 7pm in case you need to rent some gear (MITOC has nearly everything)
Participants will share car costs (about $20-$40 per person).
