Bike trip to Walden Pond!
Join a bike trip to Walden Pond this weekend!
What are we doing?
We're going to bike out to Walden pond, spend some time thinking deep thoughts in solitude, and then head home.
... more accurately, we're going to enjoy the foliage, stretch our legs, and eat some pastries.
What's the route.
What's the plan?
We'll start at the MIT student center around 8am and bike out the Minuteman to Nouve bakery in Lexington for breakfast. From there we'll continue to Bedford before snaking along the dirt path toward Concord and then Walden pond.
After spending some time at the pond, we'll bike home the way we came, possibly stopping to get more food.
What's the pace
The pace will be in the ballpark of 10mph, so 6 minute miles. We'll budget 2.5 hours to get to the pond and 2.5 hours to get home, not including stops for food along the way.
Like with all MITOC trips, this is a no-drop trip. We won't be leaving anyone behind.
Is there a bail option?
If you want to bike to Walden and not bike the full length home, you can take the commuter line from Concord to Porter Square. The commuter train runs from Concord at 1:15, 3:15, 5:15pm, and you can bring your bike on the train. You'd also get back faster than we can bike back.
What kind of bike do I need?
A road bike with road tires will be unpleasant once we finish the Minuteman. You'll at least want commuter tires.
