Prerequisites
Hiking boots or trail runners with good grip, experience climbing or hiking slabs

Warning: Although our route is not long, the Holt Trail is one of the most difficult trails in New England. This is due to very steep rock slabs, including a short Class III scramble. Not for those with a fear of heights!

Join us on a day hike to the bare summit of Mt. Cardigan, which has a 360-degree view, one of the finest in New Hampshire. On the way down we'll make a brief detour to visit Grotto Cave and hit a second summit, Firescrew.

Distance: 5.7 mi. Elevation gain: 2100 ft. (These numbers include the side trip to Grotto Cave.) Map.

The drive is only ~2 hours. We'll stop for a quick breakfast along the way.

Participants will share car costs. If you can drive your own car or are willing to drive a rental car, please edit the lottery preferences on your MITOC profile to show this.

Notes
  1. Do you have hiking boots, or trail runners? (Regular running shoes don't have the grip you'll need.)
  2. Describe a hike you have enjoyed recently (length and elevation gain, if you remember them).
  3. Do you have experience rock climbing or hiking on steep rock slabs?
