What is this?
It's a Saturday morning bike ride! With fellow MITOCers!
What's the route?
It looks something like this. The idea is to start at MIT, bike over to the Somerville/Cambridge community paths, pass through Davis and Alewife heading to the Minuteman bike path, and then take that all the way out to Bedford. From there we'll return to the city. All told, about 30 miles of biking.
Is this just exercise, or can you sweeten the deal?
We'll stop by Nouve Bakery in Lexington on the way home (with some bread and pastries to be purchased by the club).
What if I don't want to bike that far?
If we can find another leader, we can split the trip and have a group stop at the bakery and cut 10 miles off the trip (or if there is strong demand among everyone on the trip, we can shorten the trip by about 7.5 miles and not go past Nouve).
Difficulty
If you bike regularly, I think 30 miles isn't a huge lift. Seems like it'd be 3 hours of comfortable biking. The trip is rated as hard assuming most bike commuters don't regularly knock out 30 miles in a morning.
Timing
Plan is to start around 9. Bike for a little over 2 hours to the bakery. Breakfast. Return about 1 hour to home (the bakery is not at the midpoint of the journey). The expectation is that we'd be back by noon.
Weather?
Weather currently looks good after 9am on Saturday. We'll keep an eye on this. If the rain in the forecast starts to linger into later morning, we'll cancel the trip (assuming most people don't like biking in the rain).
