Join a day hike to Mt. Success, which the Appalachian Trail traverses for its nearly 360-degree views of the Northern Presidentials and Mahoosuc Range in NH and Maine. Near the summit, we'll also visit the wreckage of a 1954 DC-3 plane crash - large pieces of the plane are still on the mountain, 70 years later! As a bonus, since we'll be in the area, we'll do a second short hike the same day to Pine Mountain near Gorham. Both mountains are on the 52-with-a-view list.
Mt. Success: 6 mi, 2080 ft. gain, map.
Pine Mountain: 4 mi, 1000 ft. gain, map.
Total: 10 mi, 3080 ft. gain. (The trip is labeled "Difficult" mainly because of the combined distance.)
We'll choose Saturday or Sunday based on the weather. We'll leave Cambridge early so that we can hike at a comfortable pace, and we'll stop for a quick breakfast along the way.
Participants will share car costs. If you can drive your own car or are willing to drive a rental car, please edit the lottery preferences on your MITOC profile to show this.
