Must have attended a Moderate WinterSchool hike before, good extra-warm clothes!

The Welch-Dickey loop is a 7-km loop with a total of 540 m of elevation gain (including some steep icy scrambling), known for a high views/effort ratio. (~4.5mi, 1.7k ft for the Americans ;) )

We will be augmenting the numerator and the denominator by means of a prolonged break on lovely exposed granite slabs near the summit, where we will learn how to use the finicky MITOC white gas stoves, make hot drinks, food?, possibly set up some shelters, and generally learn how to stay warm when we stop moving and cool down (as inspiration for your next emergency (or winter camping trip)). Trees are nearby, but you need to be comfortable with your layers, including the ones that make you look like a marshmallow. Yes, really, you'll need to bundle up.
