Details

We're heading to the White Mountains to hike three NH48 by doing a Carter Traverse! This will be a difficult trip of 12 miles and 4600 feet of elevation gain. The trail is below treeline but offers good views and multiple summits. The terrain can be challenging and steep. We are looking for participants who have prior winter hiking experience and have done similarly difficult 3 season hikes. Map is here

This trip is going the opposite direction as https://mitoc-trips.mit.edu/trips/2378/

Please note we will leave Boston very early ~4am and we plan to finish hiking in the dark with headlamps.

Requirements

Previous winter hiking experience is required! You should feel very comfortable with laying and with managing your nutrition/hydration. In addition, you should have experience hiking similar mileage and elevation gain with a moderately heavy backpack during any season.

Costs

Please budget for the following expenses: $5 trip fee, $30-50 carpooling costs, possible gear rentals and eventual food you buy along the way.

Logistics

We will need a couple drivers for this trip! Please update your car status if you can drive others. If not, please select "not driving" or "will drive self". You must be prepared to rent a car if you have selected "willing to rent." (MIT provides discounted car rental to affiliates, and we'll evenly split rental/gas costs). There will be a mandatory pre-trip meeting at the MITOC Office at 6pm on Thursday

We reserve the right to select participants based on previous experience. Being selected in the lottery does not guarantee a place on this trip. Thank you for your understanding and please email us with any questions.
