Do you miss lazy Sunday mornings? Do you like moving fast? Sleep in on Sunday and join us for a ~10k trail run in the Middlesex Fells!

Join us if...

  • You can run (10k)
  • You have some winter hiking (or running) experience
  • You feel the need for speed this weekend

Experience winter trail running is not required, though some winter hiking experience is recommended. Experienced winter runners welcome too!

When & where?

  • Middlesex fells (really close!) route to be confirmed after the lottery runs
  • Leaving Cambridge around 12:30 to start running before 13:30
  • Running for < 2 hours (hopefully... see below)

How fast?

  • This is a no-drop trip; we'll run at the pace of the slowest participant
  • Be prepared to stick together and plan adequate layers
  • Pace will depend on trail conditions and we may adjust the route based on group experience
  • Runners of any pace welcome, though we'd recommend being comfortable with a 10k in under 75 minutes
  • Feel free to reach out if you're concerned about whether this is the trip for you
  • Given the cold, we'll want to keep moving at a consistent pace, so don't expect any substantial breaks aside from a couple of pauses for water

What do I need?

  • Running shoes - ideally trail runners/ something grippy
  • Layers for running in the cold (and maybe rain) + enough to keep warm if we have to stop. Recommend long base layers (pants and a top), plus something waterproof
  • Winter running willpower

Logistics

  • Mandatory pre-trip meeting at 6pm on floor 5 of the MIT Student Center (1 floor above the MITOC office)
  • There is a chance of rain on Sunday. We'll monitor weather throughout the week and persevere through rain (be prepared for running in the wet). We'll call off the trip if the weather becomes dangerously bad.
  • More details to come after the lottery runs
