Prerequisites
Experience on similarly difficult 3-season or winter hikes, fitness commensurate with ledgy scrambles and a steep 2,831 ft of elevation gain

Join us for a lovely, difficult hike up Mt. Whiteface! This 7 mile trail features 2,831 feet of elevation gain and beautiful views from the many open ledges off Blueberry ledge trail. The ledges are very exposed, particularly in winter, which means gorgeous views, but participants should be comfortable with scrambles and heights. We will be requiring microspikes, snowshoes and crampons for this trip, in anticipation of both deep snow and ice. We expect temperatures in the low-mid 30s at the peak, with 10 mph winds. (See Mountain Forecast and New England Trail Conditions for the latest information)

Participants should have experience with similarly difficult 3-season hikes and have physical fitness commensurate with a steep climb and a ledgy scramble. Given the difficulty of getting on winter school hikes this year, we will welcome winter hiking newbies as long as you have attended the winter school lectures, have the requisite 3-season experience and physical fitness, and are willing to work with the leaders to make sure you are prepared with your layering and gear. We will be moving at a moderate to fast pace so participants should be in good physical condition.

Pre-trip meeting will be at MIT at 6pm before the WS lecture on Thursday. More details will be sent to trip participants after the lottery runs.

If you can drive your own car or are willing to drive a rental car, edit the “Lottery preferences” on your MITOC profile to show this. Participants will share car costs.
