Confident lead belayer; comfortable following WI3-4 in a multipitch scenario

Join us for a 2-night ice climbing trip to Smuggler’s Notch, Vermont! We are going full glamping mode and have rented an Airbnb in Cambridge (Vermont) at an anticipated cost of $105 to $125/pp for Friday and Saturday nights. Hot tub! Hot meals! This is separate from the MITOC trip fee.

We plan to drive to Vermont on Friday. There may be a few slots available for Friday climbing, otherwise driving up after the workday so we can get an early start on Saturday. We will climb Saturday and Sunday and then drive back.

This trip is appropriate for intermediate or advanced ice climbers. You should be a confident lead belayer and ideally have some top-rope ice experience (comfortable following WI3+ or WI4 on TR). Ideally you also have some multipitch rock experience (comfortable with a hanging belay and knowing how to rappel) as many of the climbs are 2-3 pitch gullies. Approaches will vary from 30 minutes to an hour depending on the objective, starting with hiking on the road through the notch and then taking a steep hike up to the climb, potentially breaking trail through snow and snice.

Ice conditions have improved substantially over the past 10 days and a lot of climbs are coming into shape so hopefully we will have good options. We will keep an eye on the weather all week - Friday there looks to be a bit of precip which is right on the rain/snow line for the Notch.
