Join us on a high and wild loop to Mt Hight, Carter Dome, and Wildcat!

Trail

This is an 13.7 mi hike with 5700' of elevation gain. We will start up the Carter Dome trail, admire the views from Mount Hight and continue to Carter Dome and Carter Notch. If we are still feeling good, we will ascent the steep notch to Wildcat Mountain and continue along the ridge to additional subpeaks and gorgeous views before turning back, descending to Carter Notch, and returning to the trailhead via the Nineteen Mile Brook trail. This trail is below treeline but offers good views and multiple summits. The terrain can be challenging and steep.

The forecast weather for this weekend can be found here: https://www.mountain-forecast.com/peaks/Carter-Dome/forecasts/1473

Note that if conditions are bad or time is running out we will skip Wildcat and the hike will be 10 mi and 3500' of elevation gain.

Requirements

Given the cold temperature forecasted, you should have previous winter hiking experience. In addition, you should have experience hiking similar mileage and elevation gain with a moderately heavy backpack during any season.

Logistics

There will be a mandatory pre-trip meeting at the MITOC Office at 9pm on Thursday, to rent or check equipment.

Further details will be sent out after the lottery runs. Please make sure to check back on this site Wednesday morning past 9AM to see which trip you have gotten a spot on!

We reserve the right to select participants based on previous experience. Winning the lottery does not guarantee a place on this trip. Thank you for your understanding and please email us with any questions.
