Join us on a local, half-day hike to the Blue Hills on Monday, January 15! We will follow part of the Skyline Trail, which features a tower, and possibly an otter. The hike will be about 5 miles with ~1100 feet of elevation gain, and take about 4-5 hours. This trip is great for practicing carrying winter gear, layering, and testing out your trail snacks to see if they freeze! If you bring extra snacks to share, we can have a small snack potluck :-)
We will leave from the MIT Student Center at 9:00am. The current weather forecast is clear with temperatures around or below freezing, so layers (no cotton) and a strategy to stay warm is a must! Hiking boots and wool or synthetic socks are required; winter boots are recommended. We do not think microspikes will be necessary, but you are welcome to bring them (and practice using them if the opportunity strikes!). We will stop by the MITOC office to get any necessary gear before the second mandatory lecture on Thursday.
The pre-trip meeting will take place on Thursday at 9pm in the MIT Student Center. Please reach out to us ASAP if you cannot make the meeting.
