Join us on a beginner-friendly introduction to winter hiking right here in the Boston area, in the Blue Hills Reservation (30 min drive from Cambridge)! Perfect for complete beginners, this hike is a little over 4 miles, with ~1100 ft of elevation gain, and some views of Boston (weather permitting). We shall be hiking at a leisurely pace. The hike should take 2.5 hours at most.

The Blue Hill Observatory (weather monitoring) will be open, and we might get a quick tour (weather and time permitting). This is the oldest continuously-operating weather observatory in New England!

We shall be watching the weather closely, and will plan to leave Cambridge when the rain stops, tentatively between 12 noon and 1pm, maybe later. More details will be emailed after the lottery.

Logistics: A mandatory in-person pre-trip meeting Thursday, Jan. 11, at 6:30pm (before the Winter School lecture).
