Prerequisites
Comfortable climbing 5.9 rock on a top rope (outside, e.g. at Rumney), have toproped ice before, and can lead belay

The ice season in New England is getting shorter and more finicky. There is currently not much climbable ice, and very little at low elevations suitable for group trips. Instead, we will be training for ice by drytooling and/or mixed climbing. Drytooling involves using ice tools and crampons to climb predominately rock climbs; mixed climbing involves climbing on both rock and ice.

You should be comfortable climbing 5.9 rock on a top rope (outside, e.g. at Rumney), have toproped ice before, and be able to lead belay. Most of the climbs at the area we anticipate climbing range from M5+ to M9, which is physically similar to climbing 5.9+ to 5.11+ rock, though using tools will make it feel very different (likely harder at first). Description of mixed grades. We hope to be able to run more beginner-friendly ice trips in the future.

This trip will be based in the North Conway area.
