Prerequisites
Winter boots and microspikes (can be rented from MITOC, but only on Tuesday at 6pm). Physical condition for a hike of this length and elevation gain.

Join us on a steep winter hike to Mt. Tremont, one of the 52-with-a-view peaks in the White Mountains, known for its impressive views to the west over Sawyer Pond! We'll see cascades along the way, and we'll have an option to continue on to a second viewpoint, Owl's Cliff (not Owl's Head).

Route: 5.6 miles, 2550 ft. elevation gain (7.2 miles, 3600 ft. with Owl's Cliff). Map

We'll leave Cambridge very early, and stop for a quick breakfast along the way.

Participants should have attended the two mandatory Winter School lectures in a previous year. They will need to go to MITOC office hours at the MIT Student Center 4th floor (W20-461) on Tuesday at 6pm to rent winter boots and microspikes, if they do not already have them. We'll have a short pre-trip meeting on zoom Wednesday, November 22 at 7:00pm to discuss the weather and finalize logistics.

Participants will share car costs (about $130/car, more if we need to rent a car). If you can drive your own car or are willing to drive a rental car, edit the lottery preferences on your MITOC profile to show this.

Notes

1) In which year did you attend the two mandatory Winter School lectures? 2) Will you be able to get winter boots and microspikes (either own already, or rent Tuesday, or buy elsewhere)? 3) If you have enjoyed a hike recently, describe it (length and elevation gain, if you remember them). 4) If you've done a winter hike before, describe it.
