Why is there a group 2?

The original post got super popular... so we started a group number 2 (which is clearly superior to group number 1)!

The key differences are:

  • We are starting a hour later, at 8AM instead of 7AM

  • We will take the opposite direction of the other group (so we will run into them!) Original post: https://mitoc-trips.mit.edu/trips/2176/

Please note, there is a similar but separate hike departing from MIT slightly earlier on the same day. If placed on a hike, you will be only joining one of the two :-) In case of questions, feel free to email the trip leaders.

Main Info

Join us this Saturday for a hike at Mt. Monadnock! We will be starting from the Monadnock State Park headquarters, taking the White Cross Trail on the way up and the Lost Farm/Cliff Walk trails on the way down. The loop is about 4.6 miles and 1800ft in elevation gain. A map can be found here. There will be some steep sections and scrambling at the top, leading to great views of the entire Monadnock region! The terrain of this hike is also a good way to practice for more challenging hikes in the White Mountains.

Logistics

Departure: MIT Student Center @ 8am on Saturday, Sept. 30

Mandatory Pre-Trip Meeting: Thursday, Sept. 28 at 7:30pm via Zoom (email to follow)

Cost: We will share the cost of a Monadnock State Park parking pass ($16/vehicle) as well as gas/driving costs.

Additional information for gear and carpooling will be sent to participants and discussed in the pre-trip meeting. If you can drive your own car or are willing to drive a rental car, you can edit the lottery preferences on your MITOC profile.
