New to MITOC, Hiking, and the Outdoors

Are you a new student or someone new to MITOC (or hiking and the outdoors) and wants to get involved but can’t commit an entire weekend? Want to learn more about the outdoors and meet other like-minded people?

If you answered yes, then this trip is for you!

Join Taylor and Mike for a small loop in the Middlesex Fells Reservation. We anticipate about 1.5 miles or less (depending on timing) of walking, of which we will conclude the hike at Wright’s Tower overlooking the Boston skyline and watch the sunset!

This is a beginner-level hike with less than 500 feet of elevation gain aimed at new students, new MITOC members who are new to the club and/or the outdoors and looking to get involved this year. Please do not sign up for this hike if you have already participated in two or more MITOC trips in the past two years, as we want to tailor this experience specifically for new participants!

Tentative Schedule:

  • 5:15 p.m. Meet outside of Stratton Student Center for carpooling/rideshare
  • 5:45 p.m. Arrive at Middlesex Fells Parking Lot (24 S Border Rd, Medford, MA 02155)
  • 6:00 p.m. Begin Hiking!
  • 6:50 p.m. Arrive at Wright's Tower and prepare to see Sunset!
  • 7:15 p.m. Return to Parking Lot and Drive back to MIT

Required Gear:

All participants should have close-toed shoes in which they are comfortable doing physical activity. Examples may include but are not limited to: Trail running shoes, Hiking boots, or Sneakers (i.e. not Converse). A bottle of water. a rain jacket, sweatshirt, and a small backpack are also recommended.
