Description

NH Monsoon season permitting ...

Leaving early Sunday morning, we'll be heading up Mt. Washington via the Lion Head route. After summiting, we'll descend the south side of the mountain and head around the cirque to Boott Spur. From there, we'll continue south to visit Mt Isolation before coming down the Rocky Branch Trail.

Itinerary

Suggested trail map. As it stands, this is about 15 miles of hiking with about 6k feet of elevation gain.

Note on difficulty

This is a long hike. More so, this is a hard hike. The Lion Head route is steep and dangerous for newbies. For the entire party's safety, hikers will be vetted for this hike.

If the trail conditions are poor, we'll consider something easier (possibly going up Glenn Brook instead of Lion Head). If the trail conditions are good and the group is strong, we'll consider doing something to make this harder (possibly adding Wildcat D to the list of summits).

Weather

Mount Washington weather report.

Nearby city weather report

If there is rain all weekend, will the hike still happen? If the forecast is for light rain, yes (but make sure you have hiking rain gear).

If there is lightning in the forecast, will the hike still happen? We'll likely abort the trip if lightning can't be avoided, but possibly offer a hike in a different region with better weather.

Mandatory pre-trip meeting

Thursday evening, 8ish

Other

If you have questions about the hike, feel free to email the trip leaders.
