Appalachian Trail section Hike from Kinsman Notch to Franconia Notch

- Day hiking experience. First time backpacking OK if you're in good shape.
16.3 miles and 4600 feet over two days.
ROUTE AND ITINERARY:
Day 1: Start at Kinsman Notch and hike up to Eliza Brook Shelter. ~7.5 miles. The shelter has a good water source nearby. Day 2: Hike up to South Kinsman (this section is steep and rugged), and then to North Kinsman. Hike down via Fishin' Jimmy's, and Cascade Brook Trail. There are steep and slippery sections on the descent.
The hike has some pretty ponds and cascade views, as well as views of Franconia Ridge along the Kinsman ridge. You will bag two official 4000 footers, North and South Kinsman.
We will depart from Cambridge on Saturday at 8 am, and return on Sunday night.
COSTS: Plan to pay $15 per way to driver ($30 round trip). Plan $ for gear rental if you need gear. Bring money for breakfast if you want to buy it on the way Sat. morning, and bring your food for on the trail - 2 lunches, 1 breakfast, and 1 dinner. Bring a meal that you can prepare with only boiling water for Saturday night, and any breakfast (coffee, oatmeal etc.) you might want for Sunday morning.
Pre-trip meeting: Thursday 7/28 7pm in the MITOC office (at office hours) if you'd like to go over gear or have any questions.
