Getting in shape again for the summer hiking season? Looking for an easier 4000 footer to start with? Then this hike is good for you. The trail on Tecumseh is 5.2 miles long and has about 2300 feet of elevation gain.

Gear required:

  • microspikes
  • extra layer for cold weather (see below for the forecast)
  • a layer against wind
  • reasonably waterproof hiking boots, as the trail might be very wet in spots because of melting snow
  • at least two litres of water
  • food and/or snacks
  • headlamp

Conditions:

  • The recent trail conditions indicate that there might be still some snow and ice on the way, and that the trail is wet.
  • The forecasted weather is good, but still a lot colder than it currently is in the city, with temperatures feeling a bit below freezing with the wind.

Logistics:

  • The mandatory pretrip meeting is on Thursday 11 May at 19:00 on Zoom.
  • Carpools will be arranged during the pretrip meeting.
  • The intended starting time of the hike, at the trailhead, is 10:30.

Prerequisites:

  • Having done a hike with similar distance and elevation gain. This could be a bit less as long as it was comfortable for you.

Notes
  1. Do you have microspikes or able to rent them?
  2. Would you be able to drive?
  3. If you have not done a few hikes with MITOC, could you give some examples of hikes that you did in the last two years, with approximate distance and elevation gain?
