WHAT :: On Wednesday, May 17th, we'll be doing a Climbing Rescue Skills BBQ at Danehy Park. It will be a casual opportunity to refresh/practice your skillz and meet other safety-conscious folks. - Topics: hauling, escaping the belay, load transfers, passing a knot, ascending a line. - Gear list: stuff for topics you want to practice, including but not limited to belay plate devices like an ATC Guide or Reverso, a Gri Gri, double length runners, lockers, friction hitch cord, climbing harness. Climbing ropes will be provided. - Food: grilling vittles (+vegan meat alternative) will likely be provided, pending a final confirmation. Bring additional food you'd like to share for a potluck atmosphere too! And your own non-alcoholic drinks.
WHO :: This gathering is aimed at those who have already taken a self-rescue course and/or have practiced these skills independently. It's a refresher review for previously learned skills, not initial instruction.
WHEN :: Update - Starting earlier at ~6:00 - 6:15 for food, then jumping right into practice Wednesday, May 17th, 6-8 PM.
WHERE :: At the grilling area in Danehy park. Coordinates: 42.388730, -71.134479. There is a small parking lot at the Sherman Street entrance to the park, nearby. The park is also T accessible from the Red Line, and bike accessible as well.
