As part of the Women / NB Climbers Open Cabin weekend, on Saturday Susan will be taking some folks to Pawtuckaway to do an intro to trad 101 session. We will discuss different types of trad gear and how to place, assess, and remove them. We may also go over building anchors, depending on skill level and interest.
Please note: No lead climbing will be done by participants on this trip! We will be setting up Top Ropes on moderate climbs (5.7-5.8) and letting folks do mock leads or aid climb--cleaning or placing gear while remaining on top rope the whole time.
Participants must have a helmet, harness, shoes (optional if aiding), chalk bag (optional if aiding), belay device, and stoke. Because the forecast is iffy, also required are rain gear and clothing that stays warm when wet (not cotton or down), and extra calories. If it rains, you can aid climb on toprope. You do not need to own any trad gear.
Pre-reqs - Participants must be competent and safe top rope belayers, and familiar with using an autolocking device (gri-gri or Jul, etc.). You will get the most out of this experience if you have been climbing outside for a season.
If you have any questions please email Susan.
