This is a two-day Rock Climbing Self Rescue course taught by Synnott Mountain Guides in North Conway, NH on May 13-14, 2023.
Cost is $225 per person (you may be eligible for a leader subsidy if you are an active leader; contact Leader Coordinator, Paul Lilin, to check if you qualify). A ~10% tip is also common for this type of course.
If you sign up for this trip, you are committing to attending the course. We will collect payment in April, and those who do not pay within 48 hrs of the request to collect will be bumped from the trip and their spots will be given to waitlisted individuals.
This class is oriented towards climbers who are familiar with anchors and placing trad gear and are looking to get into more multi-pitch and alpine climbing. This course is not about trad gear placements, learning how to lead, climbing technique, or building anchors.
During the course you will learn various techniques, and practice in smaller groups. Techniques you'll learn include:
Rescuing a fallen second
Rescuing a fallen leader
Escaping belay
Load Transfers
Friction hitches
Rope Ascension
Passing a Knot
Hauling systems
Participants should plan on heading up Friday night, or getting to North Conway by 8:00 AM Saturday. It is likely possible to stay at the MITOC cabin at Intervale Friday and Saturday nights.
You must know how to tie the basic knots required for this course including the figure eight, double fishermans, munter, munter-mule, clove hitch, various friction hitches.
