Prerequisites
Previous winter hiking experience. Well tuned layering system. Fitness to hike over 6mi, 2.5k ft.

Come with us to pierce through snow, wind and COLD and hopefully bag a 4000fter!

Mount Pierce is a 4,310 ft peak in the Presidential Range of the White Mountains in NH. This is a moderate hike that will require winter boots and microspikes. The forecast on Saturday is clear with temps well below zero the entire day (high of -15F/-26C, significantly lower on the summit) and winds expected of 25-30+mph (frostbite in 10-30 min of exposure). We will get a small taste of the above treeline experience at the summit and some great views!

Our trail will be a 6 mile hike with about 2400 ft of elevation gain. You should be very comfortable hiking 6+ miles with significant elevation to come on this hike. You should also have previous winter hiking experience and feel very comfortable layering in cold weather. While the trail itself isn’t that long, it will be a difficult hike due to the cold. This should absolutely not be your first winter hike. Frostbite and hypothermia are real risks on this trip. Our Route

Note: This hike will be VERY cold. Even though it barely goes above treeline, full skin coverage will be required due to the low temperatures, and more/warmer layers than normal will be required. This is not a good time to be testing whether your gear works; if you’re not sure your gear or experience is adequate, please reach out to us with questions! If the forecast gets any worse, please note that this trip may be canceled or postponed to a future week.
