Let's enjoy a trip to Mt. Garfield!

The trail itself is around 9.5 miles, but due to the Gale River Loop Road winter closure, there is approximately a one mile road walk to get the to trail head. Altogether, the hike will be around 11.5 miles. Total elevation gain is around 3k feet.

This will be a difficult hike due to mileage and elevation gain, hence you are strongly recommended to have previous winter hike experience and be in reasonably good shape. Expect to use microspikes and potentially snowshoes!

There will be some brief exposed sections and windy conditions at the summits, so please bring a full set of below-treeline layers. Goggles and balaclava are recommended but not required, and prior above treeline experience not necessary.

If you can drive your own car or are willing to drive a rental car, edit the “Lottery preferences” on your MITOC profile to show this.

The pre-trip meeting will be on Thursday at 6:15PM outside of the MITOC office on the 4th floor of the Student Center (W20).
