Experience on 3-season or winter hikes of similar level, fitness commensurate with a 5 hours and 6+ miles hike.

Join us on Saturday (01-28) on a hike in the Sandwich Range of the White Mountains. Although not outstanding for its elevation, this range is very rugged and has excellent views of the surrounding lakes, mountains, and forests. We are going to summit Jennings Peak, which is in the list of New Hampshire's 52-with-a-view.

We will start from Waterville Valley and hike on the Sandwich Mountain Trail until Jennings Peak (3440') and then come back to the car via the Drakes Brook Trail. This loop is going to be a moderate, 6.1 miles hike, with 2070' of elevation gain that we expect to complete in about 4 hours. Depending on how the group is doing we might also add 2 extra miles (1.5 hours) by continuing from Jennings Peak to the Sandwich Dome OR visiting Fletcher’s cascade. Here is a map of the trails so you can get an idea of the itinerary: http://4000footers.com/jennings.shtml

We'll likely use only microspikes as traction (you can rent at the MITOC office), but we may require snowshoes depending on how much snow falls in the next few days. A mandatory pre-trip meeting will be held on Thursday, where we will discuss details and you'll be able to rent gear. Come prepared with your checkbook if you're renting and with your hiking boots if you need microspikes. We'll leave from Cambridge around 6:00 am on Saturday.

More information will follow after the lottery runs, don't forget to update your lottery/driving settings!
