IF YOU ARE SIGNING UP FOR THIS TRIP POST-LOTTERY: you will need at least one more car to fit all the late sign-ups, otherwise unfortunately we will not be able to accommodate you. (Paul's car only fits 4 + skis.)
We will start at the Lincoln Woods trailhead and ski down the flat and wide Lincoln Woods trail, which may be trickier or easier depending on snow levels since we're dodging around railway slats. We aim to reach the scenic Franconia Falls and/or Black Pond (about 3.5 miles), and then continue down to the Bondcliff trail to see how far we get before we hit our turnaround time. If there isn't enough snow, we'll drop our skis and hike around. If there really isn't any snow, we'll pick a hike nearby instead.
This trip is aimed at cross-country skiers that are comfortable skiing on groomed resort trails and want an introduction to relatively flat backcountry cross-country skiing. Ungroomed trails come with their own challenges, including lack of tracks, slippery bonus train tracks, uneven surfaces, and more gear to carry. Total distance will probably be 6-14mi, so you should be in good fitness.
