~~If the ice at Rumney is no good, we’ll make the decision to go to Kinsman Notch before the weekend.~~ We’ll be heading to Echo Crag to get some laps in on water ice.
This trip is focused on introducing people to ice climbing, so no ice climbing experience is required. However, for safety reasons, all participants should be able to top-rope belay. You should also have some previous outdoor winter experience and be knowledgeable of winter layering best practices. We'll be standing in the cold for long periods of time.
This will be a beginner ice climbing trip for WS students. The difficulty will be easy to moderate (depending on group). The ice will be at Echo Crag in NH, access from cars at most 15 minutes walk. Learning objectives are safety and basic technique. Schedule is to meet at Echo Crag Parking by 9:00 am. This requires leaving Cambridge around 6:45 am.
