Nico and Paul want to try on fancy hats that don't fly off in the wind. What better spot to test them than the summit of Mount Madison?

We'd love to have you on this hike if you are confident you can handle a 9mi hike featuring ~4000ft of vertical gain. Time will be spent above treeline, meaning it will be both fun but also require some knowledge and experience with your layers. There will be very few breaks above treeline, which means you should have good hiking-specific endurance. It will require the use of crampons and ice ax!

We will start at Appalachia Trailhead, then go up Valley Way trail up to the Madison hut. If conditions prohibit above treeline travel, we will turn around. Otherwise, we will try to summit Madison and make our way back to Appalachia. At all points, we might decide to abort and go down below treeline.

Notes

1) What is your previous winter hiking experience (what traction did you use?) 2) Where are you coming from Saturday morning (Boston? Intervale?). 3) Do you have a car? 4) If so, how many passengers (=/=incl driver)?
