Hi MITOC,
Mark your calendars! We will be hosting our annual trip to Acadia National Park over Memorial Day weekend May 28-30.
Acadia is on a beautiful island in Maine with hiking, rock climbing, cycling, kayaking, canoeing, swimming (somewhat a dare!), trail running, beach bumming, lobster eating, and relaxing. Acadia is approximately 5-6 hours from Boston. MITOC reserves a group campsite at Bass Harbor but there will not be many formally organized MITOC trips-- you will be mostly organizing among yourselves. Participants are expected to bring their own food, camping gear (some available to rent at MITOC), plans, and equipment, and enjoy this beautiful national park with other MITOCers.
Here are some more ideas for things to do at Acadia: http://www.acadiamagic.com/Park.html
Camping is $27/person for the weekend (there are no "daily" rates). Space is limited to 75. You must pay for camping online (credit card) when you sign up for the trip. Signing up and paying is a commitment, there are no refunds.
Again, participants will be expected to make their own plans for the weekend (before the trip or during the trip in the mornings and during dinners) - any pre-organized trips will be up to the discretion of MITOC activity leaders. There will most likely be a few organized climbing and kayaking trips.
Timeline: Monday, May 16 at 10am: Sign up begins Monday, May 23: Signups close Wednesday, May 25, 6-7pm: Acadia pre-trip meeting and office hours exclusively for Acadia gear rentals. Friday/Saturday May 27-28: Drive up to Acadia!!!
