Prerequisites
3-season hiking experience, attended mandatory WS lectures, good general fitness

Come experience the classic "52 with a view" Welch-Dickey loop! This trip in the southern White Mountains is ~4.4mi with 1800' elevation gain and wonderful views from some wide-open ledges. To force a theme, we will snack on some Welch's fruit snacks and maybe Uncrustables and find out if they freeze or not*.

This trip will be a great experience to practice winter hiking skills (traction, layering, eating/drinking, hopefully butt-sliding) to get you ready for bigger trips later in winter school! It is appropriate for beginner and experienced winter hikers. While previous winter hiking experience is not required, previous 3-season hiking experience is required and you must have attended this year's mandatory safety lectures.

There's currently rain and snow forecasted for the preceding days and this route feature some rocky sections. We will continue monitoring weather and trail conditions but expect a mix of snow and ice, so microspikes will be required.

We will have a mandatory pre-trip meeting after Thursday's lecture to review gear and trip logistics.

*yes you could also do this experiment in your freezer, but this is more fun
