Prerequisites
At least three moderate difficulty winter hikes in the Whites or a similar mountain range; above tree-line experience great but not necessary

On Saturday, join Blox, Taryn, and Monika on an adventure above treeline to Mt. Monroe! This a great trip for participants who already have experience with winter hiking, and would like to gain above treeline experience.

We'll plan to hike up the Ammonoosuc "Ammo" Ravine trail to the AMC Lake of the Clouds Hut. From there we'll assess the conditions and continue to the summit of Mt. Monroe if they are favorable. The overall hike is approx 7 miles and 2900' of elevation gain. See the route map. Since we plan to be traveling above treeline for a portion of the hike, full face coverings with ski goggles will be required. We will likely use microspikes for much of the hike, but may need to bring snowshoes and/or crampons depending on conditions after Thursday’s snow/rainfall.

For weather, see Mt. Monroe’s weather forecast and NH higher summits forecast. Currently the forecast is for 7*F with windchill.

There will be a mandatory pre-trip meeting at the student center on Thursday at 6pm before the lecture to go over important trip info and gear.
