Why eat breakfast or lunch when you can eat brunch? And why eat in the cozy confines of your apartment/dorm/house/yurt when you can eat outside on a rock? Why leave for a trip at 5am when you could just leave at 8:30 after you get your coffee? And why drink cold cocoa when you can drink hot cocoa?

If these questions have been floating around your head, this local trip is for you! We'll be heading to Blue Hills Reservation in Quincy, MA, which is ~30min from Cambridge, for a beginner-friendly hike to a lovely view of the Boston skyline. During this trip, we will pause for a break to whip out same camping stoves and make some cocoa before heading back down. BYO mug and any preferred cocoa accoutrements!

Since the forecast for Friday is currently calling for rain, be prepared for wet and slippery sections on the trail by wearing shoes with appropriate traction (i.e. hiking boots or trail runners). We do not think that microspikes will be necessary, but you are welcome to bring them (and practice carrying them for future winter hikes!) We will also stop by the MITOC office to get any necessary gear before the second mandatory lecture on Thursday.

The full hike will be about 5 miles following the trail below. Click on the link here to see the map and mileage!
