Crane beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in the region and is only one hour drive from MIT. We will hike on trails that traverse sand dunes and maritime scrub forest, wander around the beachfront and (optionally) visit Castle Hill grounds and gardens.

This is an easy trip suitable for people with basic hiking experience. We will hike around 3 miles on mostly flat trails. We plan to leave at 9 am and be back in the mid-afternoon.
This trip is an opportunity to practice winter layering - temperatures will likely be in mid-30s with a 30% chance of snow showers.
The beach is a great spot for bird watching, so bring binoculars if you have it.
We will bring a couple different portable stoves to test them in windy conditions and will make hot tea (chocolate fondue?).
