- Experience on similarly difficult 3-season or winter hikes, fitness commensurate with a steep 3,260 ft of elevation gain
Join us on Monday for our hike to Mt Surprise and Mt Moriah to enjoy the view over the Presidentials from the open summit of this 4k footer.
The hike is about 8.5 miles out-and-back with a steep grade and significant elevation gain of 3260 feet. We will start out from Gorham, NH and hike up the Carter-Moriah Trail until Mt Moriah and then come back the way we came: https://caltopo.com/m/00H1M
There are some steep parts that will require traction, most likely microspikes which you can rent at the MITOC office, but we may require snowshoes depending on conditions. This will be a strenuous hike due to mileage and elevation gain, hence you are strongly encouraged to consider your previous winter hiking experience and whether you are comfortable hiking at this difficulty level.
A mandatory pre-trip meeting will be held on Thursday, after the Winter School Safety Lecture and you'll have the chance to rent gear directly then. More information will follow after the lottery runs, don't forget to update your lottery/driving preferences!
