Want to see ice in summer? Or hike underneath house-sized boulders? We'll hike up Mt. Adams (the second highest summit in the White Mountains) via King Ravine Trail, including detours to the Subway and the Ice Caves. The King Ravine Trail is one of the most challenging trails (some even say the most challenging) in the White Mountains, with difficult scrambling up the headwall of the ravine. The Subway is a route through boulder caves at the foot of the ravine. Both are Terrifying 25 trails. The Ice Caves feature ice that never melts. The summit of Mt. Adams is said to have even better views than Mt. Washington because it is pointier!
If you have a fear of heights, do not sign up for this hike!
Route: 10.1 miles, 4650 ft. elevation gain, https://caltopo.com/m/3A4H3
There will be a pre-trip meeting Thursday August 18 at 8pm on Zoom.
The trip is currently planned for Saturday August 20, but weather might force us to shift it to Sunday, or to reschedule completely, for safety. The plan would be to leave Cambridge very early in the morning to allow plenty of time. We'll hike at a comfortable pace.
If you can drive your own car or are willing to drive a rental car, edit the “Lottery preferences” on your MITOC profile to show this.
