Mt. Moosilauke has been famous for centuries for the views from its above-treeline summit. It's the highest mountain west of Rt. 93 until one reaches the Adirondacks in upstate New York. It's also the westernmost New Hampshire 4000-footer, a massive mountain from which you can see 34 other 4000-footers as well as most of central New Hampshire and Vermont. On a very clear day you can see even the high peaks of the Adirondacks, over 100 miles away!
There are many routes up the mountain; we'll choose the Beaver Brook Trail for its series of beautiful cascades, though it is steep, with wooden steps and iron handrails to help with the trickiest spots. If we have a second car for a car spot, we may choose to descend to a different trailhead and visit the mountain's South Peak on the way down.
Route: 7.8 miles, 3150 ft. elevation gain. https://caltopo.com/m/RBT5B
There will be a pre-trip meeting Tuesday July 12 at 8pm on Zoom.
The plan will be to leave Friday at 7am. We'll hike at a comfortable pace.
