Winter School

Winter School is MITOC’s annual winter outdoors extravaganza, and our largest event of the year. Every weekend during IAP you will have the opportunity to get outdoors, learn new skills, meet other MITOC folks, and explore the wilderness in New England.

Winter School is open to anyone who wants to get outside during the winter!

Guest speaker

7pm: Eric and Matthew Gilbertson

A decade ago, twin brothers Eric and Matthew Gilbertson were MIT students (MIT 2008, then MIT PhD 2014) and MITOC super-volunteers.

After a lot of hiking and climbing in New Hampshire - and already many impressive feats - they started the project of climbing the highest points of every country in the world. They became the first people to reach the highest points of every North American country, and are totalling 132 countries at this point!

Eric and Mattew will join us on Tuesday to tell us about some of their recents ascents in Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, the US and Canada. They'll also tell us how skills they learned in Winter School helped them to plan and execute bigger trips!
