- Above treeline winter hiking experience; good physical fitness
Join us for a challenging, beautiful hike up Mt. Jefferson with lots of above treeline exposure. We will go up the Castle Trail, go above treeline, and summit Mt. Jefferson. If time and weather permit, we will explore the snowfields between Jefferson and Adams before looping back to the Castle Trail. The trip is 11 miles long (~3 miles above treeline) with ~4800 ft of elevation gain. There will be steep uphill and downhill in difficult snowfields.
We will be wearing crampons and carrying an ice axe for the majority of the trip, so this can be a good opportunity to gain good crampon experience.
To join this trip, you need previous above treeline winter hiking experience and good physical fitness.
The mandatory pre-trip meeting is at 6:15pm on Thursday at the MITOC office.
