Join us this snowy Sunday for a fab time on Field, Avalon, and Tom! The forecast for fresh pow on both Friday and Sunday cements our interest in one of the best butt sledding locations in the Whites. Why hike down when you could slide?

We'll begin our adventure from the AMC Highland Center, traveling up the Avalon Trail and then splitting off to the ridge. We plan to take a quick jaunt up the Mount Tom Spur to tag our first peak of the day if our pace allows the out-and-back milelong excursion. Venturing further to Mount Field, our second NH 4000 Footer, we'll then loop back to the small but mighty side peak Mount Avalon, where the glissading is good and trees made of candy.

The hike is around 6.5 miles and almost 3,000 feet of elevation gain including Mount Tom.

Disclaimer: the snow coverage is, as of today, a little light for butt sledding. We're counting on this week's snow storms, but if it's not enough, we will sadly need to hike down. If snow conditions are terrible, we may also hope for another hike of similar difficulty in the same area
